One of the things we enjoyed most about Zakynthos was how relaxed every meal felt. Long dinners by the water, small family owned tavernas and restaurants hidden along the coastline quickly became some of our favorite moments on the island.
What stood out to us most is that dining in Zakynthos is not just about the food. It is about the setting, the atmosphere and slowing down for a few hours while watching the sunset or listening to the sea nearby.
In this guide, we are sharing some of the restaurants and dining experiences that stood out to us the most while exploring Zakynthos.
Seaside Dining in Zakynthos Town π
Evenings in Zakynthos Town quickly became part of our routine. The waterfront atmosphere feels lively without being overwhelming, and there are plenty of restaurants where you can sit outside and enjoy the view while the town slowly lights up.
What we liked most here was simply walking around and choosing a place based on the atmosphere rather than planning everything in advance. Some of the best dinners came from restaurants we discovered unexpectedly while exploring the streets near the harbor.
Hidden Tavernas Along the Coast πΏ
Some of the most memorable meals we had were in smaller tavernas away from the busier tourist areas.
Driving through villages or along quieter coastal roads often led us to simple restaurants with incredible views and fresh local food. These places usually felt more personal and relaxed, with slower service in the best possible way.
What made these spots special was how authentic they felt compared to larger restaurants in the more crowded areas.
Sunset Restaurants with a View π
Zakynthos has some incredible sunset locations, and a few restaurants make the most of it with terraces overlooking the cliffs and ocean.
We found ourselves staying much longer than planned at places where the view slowly changed as the sun went down. The combination of warm evening light, calm atmosphere and good food made these dinners some of the most memorable moments of the trip.
If possible, we would definitely recommend booking a later dinner time at least once while visiting the island.
Traditional Greek Food Done Right π
One thing we appreciated in Zakynthos is that many restaurants still feel connected to local Greek cuisine rather than being overly modern or tourist focused.
Fresh seafood, grilled meats, simple salads and traditional dishes often ended up being some of the best meals we had on the island.
The food felt uncomplicated in a good way. Fresh ingredients, relaxed settings and long dinners were what stood out most.
The Best Dining Experiences Were Unexpected β¨
Looking back, the restaurants we remember most were not necessarily the most famous ones.
Often it was the smaller places with a beautiful atmosphere, a quiet location or an incredible sunset view that ended up becoming highlights of the trip.
Zakynthos feels like a place where you discover great restaurants naturally while exploring rather than strictly planning every dinner in advance.
