Zakynthos is famous for its dramatic coastline, and one of the things that stood out to us most was just how varied and beautiful its beaches are. From the iconic Shipwreck Beach to quiet coves with crystal clear water, the island offers an incredible range of places to swim and relax.
During our time on Zakynthos, beach days quickly became one of the highlights of the trip. Some spots were lively and easy to reach, while others felt hidden and almost untouched.
In this guide, we are sharing the beaches and coastal spots that impressed us the most and are absolutely worth visiting while exploring Zakynthos.
Navagio (Shipwreck Beach) 🚢
Navagio, also known as Shipwreck Beach, is the most famous spot on the island, and it truly lives up to the hype.
Framed by towering white cliffs and reached only by boat, the beach with its old shipwreck and impossibly blue water is one of the most iconic sights in Greece. The viewpoint above the beach is equally breathtaking.
It is well worth seeing both from the water and from the clifftop viewpoint.
Porto Limnionas 🌿
Porto Limnionas is a beautiful rocky cove on the west coast, known for its incredibly clear turquoise water.
Rather than sand, it offers flat rocks to relax on and deep, clean water that is perfect for swimming. The dramatic setting and calm atmosphere make it feel special and a little more off the beaten path.
It is one of the best spots on the island for a scenic swim.
Gerakas Beach ☀️
Gerakas is one of the most beautiful sandy beaches on the island, set within a protected natural area.
The soft golden sand, clear shallow water and unspoiled surroundings give it a peaceful, natural feel. As an important nesting area for sea turtles, it is kept wonderfully undeveloped.
It is a lovely choice for a relaxed and scenic beach day.
Xigia Beach 🌊
Xigia is a small, distinctive beach known for its natural sulphur springs, which give the water a unique quality.
Tucked beneath cliffs, it feels intimate and a little different from the island's larger beaches. The clear water and dramatic surroundings make it a memorable stop.
It is a nice spot to combine a swim with something a bit unusual.
Marathonisi (Turtle Island) 🐢
Just offshore, the small island of Marathonisi is often called Turtle Island for its shape and its resident sea turtles.
Reached by boat, its clear water and quiet beach make it a lovely place to swim and relax. With a bit of luck, you may even spot a turtle in the surrounding waters.
